Facebook – check! M is for March, is for…money.

Quick update:

Sorry for the lack of postings in February. (I’d really like to start a post without that sentence.) Here’s how the Facebook Fast went –

It wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I accidentally logged in twice – hilarious that my fingers mindlessly type www.facebook.com into the address bar. I missed out on quite a few events. Apparently Facebook is the only way of communication for a lot of people. I don’t quite understand that. Enough said. Interestingly enough, I realized that I rely on Facebook way too often to update me on people’s lives as well. I need to be better at picking up the phone or writing an email – staying in communication with those that mean so much to me. Guess it’s a two-way street…who knew? (Raise your hand.)

I’m very excited for the month of March. Lots happening on the workfront and a wonderful trip to Dominican Republic with First Presbyterian Church here in Colorado Springs planned for later on this month. I decided to go on this trip the day before the deadline. I live my life way too last-minute at times. The clincher for me to sign up was that we are going to work with a Women’s Co-op while we are down there. (Horrible grammar, but I just can’t make it work for some reason.) Katie Dayton, leader of the pack and someone who has one of those names where you have to say their full name, mentioned that specifically to me when she was recruiting me for the week long excursion.

Since then, I’ve been blessed with over half the funds for the trip in a matter of two days – praise Jesus! And I’m getting more and more excited about what God is already doing there and what His plans are for our group as well. I’ve had three different people tell me they feel like I’m going to hear something from the Lord during my time there. I have no earthly idea what this “something” could be, but the possibilities are endless and the thought of God speaking to or through me keeps me hopeful, that’s for sure. I’m anticipating it in a way. Recently, I’ve experienced some emotional and mental blocks with the calling I feel like God’s placed on my life. Thanks to a very thoughtful friend and her incredible timing and knowledge of God’s word, I have a new sense of strength to battle the waves of discouragement.

Okay, this month, M is for March and for money. For the month of March, I’m not going shopping. I shall only buy the necessities (i.e. groceries, gas, bills, etc.) and supplies I need for the Dominican Republic trip. I use retail therapy quite a bit. A lot of times I return what I buy (which is an entirely other issue), but I really need to control my spending and my dilly-dallying around certain retail outlets nearby. So, for the month of March I’m not spending any excess money. (I have a feeling this one will be much harder than Facebook.)

Sidenote – I watched the ENTIRE Oscar’s, which I believe is the first awards show I’ve ever watched in it’s entirety. (It certainly wasn’t worth it. The 3 hours was why I don’t watch awards shows.) I realized that I don’t go see/watch enough movies. I saw Inception and Toy Story 3 out of the line-up of nominees. I really need to get out more.

I also got to meet The Pioneer Woman – Ree Drummond at Tattered Cover in Denver. Seriously, it was one of the Top 20 days of my life!!! I loved every bit of it. She is so natural and real and genuine and a great dresser and has a gorgeous family and liked my outfit and signed my cookbook and we took a picture and laughed and she lost her train of thought because we were laughing so hard.

I felt like I bonded with her mother-in-law and sister-in-law when I let her sis-in-law know she had a sticker on the back of her sweater – that one of the younger girls had put there. It was a wonderful moment – such genuine and kind people. I can imagine that their family gettogethers are quite the balance of loving embraces and hysterical laughter! I’ve said this before – my mom and grandma are my heroes, but P-Dubb can be another one of my role models.

Two girls from Dalhart drove all night to get to the signing. Their husbands thought they were crazy, but drove them up to Denver anyway. I told my friends before the signing that the two Dalhart girls were from Texas. Sure enough – you can’t mistake a Texas girl. (Happy birthday Texas, by the way!!!)

Thank you for putting up with/loving me through this whole “becoming youier” thought process. I am so grateful for each of you!

(So much for the quick update.)
